Hello, I'm Leslie Knope

I am the Deputy Director of the Parks and Recreation Department in the city of Pawnee, Indiana. I was also recently elected to serve on the city council- a life-long dream of mine.
I believe that we as a people deserve lush public spaces, the chance to dream, and the guarantee of JJ's waffles being available 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. I have served my current post at the parks department for more than ten years, which has given me the experiences of a lifetime.
I am a proud member of numerous action committees in and around City Hall, including, but not limited to: the Equal Opportunity Committee, the Fun in the Sun Committee, the Clean Restroom Task Force, the Increased Access to Restrooms Task Force, the Handicapped Restroom Task Force, the Committee for Repainting Handicapped Parking Spaces Task Force and the Task Force to Reduce the Number of Public Restrooms.
I am also the founder of the Pawnee Goddesses- a youth organization dedicated to inspiring the future citizens of Pawnee to be strong, confident, and compassionate. Now accepting both genders!

My Book: Pawnee: The Greatest Town in America

Welcome to Pawnee: More Exciting than New York, More Glamorous than Hollywood, Roughly the Same Size as Bismarck, North Dakota. In 2011, my book on the great (and surprising) history of Pawnee hit bookshelves everywhere.
The book chronicles the city’s colorful citizens and hopping nightlife, and also explores some of the most hilarious events from its crazy history—like the time the whole town was on fire, its ongoing raccoon infestation, and the cult that took over in the 1970s. Packed with laugh-out-loud-funny photographs, illustrations, and commentary by the other inhabitants of Pawnee, it’s a must-read that will make you enjoy every moment of your stay in the Greatest Town in America.
Praise for Pawnee
“Carrying this book around is a good way of picking up girls with glasses.” —Tom Haverford
“I have read over four books, and this is by far the one that has me in it the most.” —Andy Dwyer
“Literally the greatest endeavor of human creativity in the history of mankind.” —Chris Traeger

Current Project: Pawnee Commons

For the last five years, I have been using as many resources in my arsenal to actualize the dream of the Parks Department to turn lot 49 from a decrepit pit into a city park: the Pawnee Commons.
From forming a simple sub-committee to designing and gathering support from the community, this project to transform the Sullivan St. Pit has been a journey. With the recent gala hosted by the beautiful people of the Parks Department, we are nearly to the finish line. I look forward to updating you on the future of the Pawnee Commons really soon.
