Take a look at some of the examples on the right. These are people who are either choosing to showcase their "skills" in a positive or negative light.
Once upon a time, the rule was to only post things online you'd be okay with your grandmother seeing. However, currently you need to go a step further and present yourself as if you are a product and you want to become an international success. Compare yourself to other products out there... "Are you a Coke (cool, classy, professional), a Pepsi (edgy, trendy, up-and-comer), or the local off-brand that people only purchase to square off a debt?"
